Think we have a possibility at least of having Gerry Adams here

Not a bad analogy, now that we know that Gerry Adams has been part and parcel of the IRA's criminal activities for years. The civilized front man in a nice suit. Yup. Actually, I think a little bit better of Abu Mazen than that - I think he genuinely thinks that the second intifada was a mistake, and that the Pals need to get their own house in some kind of order. But. He doesn't have the support, he has no charisma, he can't get the support, he can't abandon terrorism, and he won't begin to clamp down even on the guys who are shooting up Ramallah. He might as well announce "I AM A WEAKLING" through a megaphone.

Your pessimism is a killer Nadine. If you are right both peoples are condemned to endless war

I am not a total pessimist. The Pals are not at all immune to the winds of the Arab Spring (they know more about democracy than other Arabs, having seen the Israeli version), and support for the armed conflict is going down, this being seen as a failed strategy, while support for less corruption and more law is strong and rising. But real improvement will wait for a real movement with a real leader. Abu Mazen isn't it.
