The rightwing obsession with Jane Fonda is a dishonest revisionist attempt to somehow blame 600,000 deaths and the terrible boondoggle and quagmire of Vietnam on those who tried to stop the madness. Remember, Vietnam never attacked us and was only a civil war. Before Johnson escalated (based on lies like the WMD's lies) we had things under control, but once we sent in Halliburton (then Brown and Root) we created a monster and things blew up in our faces. The draft was also a terrible thing, and the whole mess should never have happened. None of would have happened if JFK hadn't been murdered. By whom? The far right certainly, though we may never know exactly who. Fonda's methods ended up being wrong, but only out of total frustration. The anti-war movement of the mid to late 60's failed to bring about peace. Furthermore, in those days, riot cops and Guardsmen would actually fire upon protesters and kill them. So it got ugly on all sides. If cops opened fire on the Schiavo protesters, wouldn't the far rightwing be up in arms now and start insurrections? Of course. And I wouldn't even be blaming them. Would you? The real and only real crime was the war itself. See "The Fog Of War" and McNamara will teach you what really went on behind the scenes at the very top levels. Such a crime and tragedy. Also remember that the only ones who "won" that war were Bectel and Halliburton (then Brown and Root), the same ones "winning" in Iraq on a somewhat smaller scale today. The profiteers of war. Ought to be a special place for them in Hades. Especially since they routinely rip off tax-payers.
