It's a good article with a lot of good thoughts. I think if Bush and the neocons had been more forthcoming about their plan for spreading Democracy within the Middle East,

I don't think that was uppermost in their minds when planning this invasion. In fact, I believe spreading democracy was an afterthought.

I remember when Bush was selling the war with Iraq by talking about WMD. At the time, I honestly believed there was WMD in Iraq.

I don't know how you guys could have believed him. Just the way it was presented was suspect. I knew he was lying and it was very frustrating.

So no, I don't think the means justify the ends. I like where we are today in Iraq and I think we are headed in the right direction, despite the very bumpy ride. However, I wish we had had the open debate about the real reasons for going to Iraq so that the American people could have decided whether or not it was a worthy goal and whether we were willing to pay for it. I would have voted to go in, but I wouldn't have been for going in if the majority of Americans did not want to go. That's what Democracy is all about on these important issues.

If it wasn't for the WMD claims, a majority of Americans would not have been behind the invasion. Maybe that's why Bush et al lied.
