I think he set the "life" standard for all of us including folks like me who are pro-choice, pro-death penalty, pro-iraq war. Actually i have been forced to rethink the death penalty which i now think i am opposed to in principle.
I have to always answer the question "what would the pope think" and if i disagreed with his decision in this imperfect world, i better damn well be able to justify it.
Of course as a catholic friend pointed out, this pope had some bizarre views pertaining to teenage sex, just say no and contraception for example that are naive at best, particularly for one who trying to prevent abortion. Mike
