I too use netscape 7, have a modem and run the latest AVG. Just for your info, I have not experience any mail problems.

Have you checked the preferences? When you click on your netscape Mail, under edit, you will see Mail and News Groups Account Settings. Click on that and a dialogue box opens. Click on the Server settings. Make sure you do not have the "leave on server" checked. I have the auto down load checked, as well as "check for messages on start-up", and of course "check for messages every ..... minutes".
