No doubt you don't want to do more
harm. But then, there are times where reducing pain levels
can allow you to get back some small measure of your life
that otherwise would be lost to incapacitating pain. Quality
of life & all that.

Keep in mind that if an injury is sensitive enough, even small amounts of exertion can push the tissue past what it can bear and you can make things worth. That "quality of life" is what you want back at the end. It can pay to live without it for a while to allow the injury to heal.
