Is it a natural progression when a country starts going downhill?

This country has a history of being ideologically split......ever since the Civil War. That, in and of itself, is not bad. The problem is that the right has captured a lot of control at a time when the Dems are weak. The split in the population is very close to 50-50 but since Clinton, the side that represents us has been badly demoralized. And while that's not true today, during their down period, the Dems became disorganized and out of focus while the GOP got its act completely together. As a result, the GOP made some major inroads into the state and federal gov'ts.......and control many of them.

And to make matters worse, a fringe element, the radical/religious right, seems to have hijacked the GOP. And its starting to look like even Bush doesn't have them under control.

Unfortunately, I don't think most Americans know or understand the dynamics in play here and how dangerous the situation has become........at least it doesn't appear that they do. My cousin who voted for Bush is just now starting to question the wisdom of that choice. The Schiavo mess opened up his eyes. That puts him back where I was in November, 2000. There is a catch up gap of five years that he has to get through rather quickly.

Let me just say that if they go after the courts, I think all hell will break out. And then, its anyone's game.

As for going downhill, I see the corruption in Congress as more indicative of that. But what does it really matter if we go down because of corruption or ideology. The results are still the same.
