I could certainly understand discrediting what I wrote for that reason...

Of course then you really (logically) couldn't believe anyone on SI, except about things that were independently verifiable. I have a lot of sympathy with that position. If something was critical, I certainly wouldn't put a lot of trust in the opinions of people I've never met. Not that we don't learn interesting things on SI- but the things I discover send me off to research things on my own, I can't say I give a huge amount of credence to anecdotes. So maybe Bill is like that, or maybe not. Who knows? Bill does. But will he necessarily tell us the "truth"? Maybe, maybe not- and there's no way to tell, imo.
