Carter is our greatest president when you add in what he's done after leaving office. The guy is practically a saint.

Conservatives like to attack Carter (and Clinton) because he proved blacks and whites can be friends in the "New South", and that would break up the rightwing Southern Strategy which relies on racial disiveness, but in actuality the high interest rates and energy crisis which doomed Carter were not his fault. They were ready to explode when he came into office. He interited a Shah about to fall and huge Vietnam War debts. As we will soon find out, huge debts bring higher interest rates.

Carter can be credited for making the world a better place though he was not perfect and was very unlucky. But attacks on him are largely unfair.
