That's an old trick to push the market. I remember in the UK they called it "gazumped". When asked by prospective buyers why the house was taken off the market, the owner said it had gazumped -- gazumped to a higher price.

I think in this case he gotzomped it had to do with him realizing CA divorce laws calls for a 50/50 split. He had the house for 20 years and the wife had been with him about 7 years. Surface wise it appears the settlement on the house would be about $465,000 + + each. the couple are attempting to settle the divorce suit issues and then I am sure the Gazumped will happen next and in a couple of years comes the I gottook.
