I think what goldworld was saying as a "former" marine (there is no such thing as an "ex" marine) he is trained in the proper use AND SAFETY of an assault rifle and thus would be more likely to be entrusted with one, not to mention, the original purpose of the Constitution, being that an armed citizen militia aids in guaranteeing the safety of Democracy in our Nation. jdn

Real assault rifles are not sold in any state with the exception to law enforcement, high security etc. As for the weapons used in that are referred to as assault rifles, they look scarier than then ordinary hunting rifles, but certainly are no greater a weapon. The only real reason the population should have weapons is for self defense, hunting and a deterrent from control freaks such as yourself steam rolling over basic rights. We saw what Clinton/Reno did in Waco. Saved the children they did. Yep. Although we don't appear near a government taken over by people like you, the people nee the right to defend themselves from your ilk, should that day come. I am a Marine and a Law Enforcement Investigator and my experience tells me that many people are bullshitted by appearance of weapons. Especially anything made is the appearance of the military weapons. If a sick person wants to kill you or anyone it is easily accomplished with poisons, gasoline etc. Ya gonna ban gas?

Oh, Hi Sprite! I'm so glad to learn that you didn't expire of grief after the election, as many of us feared. Let me tell you something. There's no such thing as an EX-Marine. Once a Marine, always a Marine. I am not a Marine, but my brother invited me to the Marine Corps Ball last November to witness his popping the question to his sweetie. There were quite a few Marines in attendance, and some REALLY old ones could still get into their dress blues. There was a lot of fruit salad there too. For those of you who lurk around this thread, fruit salad is a synonym for decorations: ribbons, medals, and honors for valor and such like. You probably wouldn't understand.
