Yes, I previously commented on Shell trying to close their Bakersfield refinery rather than sell to another company, when the story was reported in the Los Angeles Times a number of months ago.

Some on this board found it inconceivable that Shell wanted to close a refinery which was making $5 million a year in profit.

I suggested that Shell didn't want to anger Chevron. This led some to suggest I just didn't understand the oil business because they worked for the Post Office and they knew that oil companies were very competitive. I would question what special insight postal employees have on the oil business.

Incidentally, I notice I refered to Shell's refinery as being in Benicia. Actually it's a few miles away in Martinez, while Valero's refinery is located Benicia.
