All politicians are crooked once they can get their hands in the cookie jar and Chretien was no exception. The current Liberal government is ready to collapse over the sponsorship scandal inherited from Chretien which makes headlines every day. I don't know why people are surprised when politicians steal things because they are trained to do that. theglobeandmail.com Canada is floating on a sea of oil, natural gas, gold, diamond and uranium and yet we buy leaky submarines the Brits have moth balled and our current Prime Minister runs his family business out of Barbados. Did you know Canada developed the most advanced jet fighter in history and it was scrapped by former PM Diefenbaker? Royal watchers alarmed by election talk CBC News REGINA – Saskatchewan's royal watchers are growing alarmed over talk a federal election could scuttle the Queen's visit to the province next month. The Queen during a visit to Winnipeg in 2002 "It would be a shame. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be in Canada May 17-25 to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Saskatchewan and Alberta becoming provinces. They're scheduled to arrive in Saskatchewan May 17 and leave for Alberta May 20. However, Monarchist League of Canada president John Aimers said last week that if there is an election, the Queen may postpone her visit to Saskatchewan and Alberta to avoid controversy. Election speculation has been rampant in Ottawa in recent days. On Tuesday morning, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper suggested he might not wait for a report on the sponsorship scandal, expected this fall at the earliest, to bring down Paul Martin's minority government. The recent revelations at the Gomery inquiry have swung the Conservatives' campaign machinery into high gear for an early election. The inquiry heard that Liberal supporters connected to former prime minister Jean Chrétien may have benefitted from sponsorship contracts directed to Quebec advertising firms. Strategists say the party is looking at a potential election campaign starting some time in May. Slater said there are a lot of royal fans like her who would be sorely disappointed if that happened.
