I see, that type of work is always chaotic and non-systematic. But then that's a reason that overworked consultants should be paid well, not a reason programmers should be paid well.

I would say pay teachers ~$30k for the first two years, and then $60k per year from then on, but after the first two grace period years, 50% get let fired every year. Then you would attract bright teachers, and the weeding system would get rid of the lousy ones. You'd also get serious preparation and competition at the entry level as all the new teachers know a decent $60k per year salary is awaiting those that can hack it.

Let the ones who lose their job in the 3rd year (or later) go become programmers.....
