Carter has been held more than responsible by the right. Now it's time to give him a break. Read the book "The Prize" about the history of the oil business and you can plainly see Carter stepped into office at the wrong time, just as the Shah had been undermined and the Arab world was ready to rise up and punish the west. Also, the interest rates were already climbing and the Vietnam War debt was crushing. Also, give Carter credit for getting the Arabs and Israelis talking again, and for bringing much more racial harmony to the USA. Also, basically being a very honest good christian leader. I mean a real christian, not one of these hateful right-wing radicals. Not very charismatic and strong, but a very good man. One of the best we'll ever see.
