Undisclosed....Pfizer (could be about 10000) Pfizer lowers earnings outlook, plans job cuts By Christopher Rowland, Globe Staff | April 6, 2005 Pfizer Inc. predicted yesterday that profits will plummet 25 percent this year and said it plans to eliminate jobs and make other spending cuts that will save $4 billion a year. The worsening outlook for the world's biggest drug company is a result of patent expirations on products representing one-third of Pfizer's total revenues, lingering questions about safety that have pushed down sales of its pain drugs Celebrex and Bextra, and a hostile regulatory environment that is putting a check on prices. The company said at least part of its cost reductions, which will be phased in over the next three years, would be achieved through layoffs and attrition. ''We will be looking at head count," Pfizer chief executive Hank McKinnell said at a teleconference with reporters in New York. Pfizer said manufacturing and sales positions would be likely targets but did not specify how many people would lose their jobs, or when. Before yesterday's meeting, analysts had estimated the company might cut as many as 10,000 of the company's 115,000 jobs.

1080...GM in Oklahoma Posted on Wed, Apr. 06, 2005 Click here to find out more! Shift end affects about 830 jobs at Oklahoma GM plant Associated Press OKLAHOMA CITY - A decrease in demand for the two sport-utility vehicles manufactured at the General Motors Corp. Oklahoma City assembly plant has led to the elimination of the second shift at the facility, affecting about 830 jobs, officials said. GM spokeswoman Nancy Sarpolis said late Tuesday that the shift would shut down June 27 at the plant, which has about 2,500 hourly and 180 salaried employees. Sarpolis declined to characterize the shutdown as permanent, saying the corporation could restart the second shift if demand for vehicles manufactured by the plant increases. The shift begins at 4:30 p.m. daily. Most of the job losses will occur among employees who worked that shift, but seniority and other factors will be weighed, Sarpolis said. Local and national union agreements will be followed, she said. Higher gasoline prices and strong competition in the midsize SUV market has affected sales of the seven-passenger Chevrolet TrailBlazers and GMC Envoys made at the plant. GM slowed its Oklahoma City assembly line by almost 25 percent earlier this year, a move that resulted in at least 250 layoffs. miami.com

(AP) -- Office equipment supplier Imagistics International Inc. on Tuesday cut its 2005 earnings forecast and said it would close a manufacturing center and cut some jobs, citing weak revenue in its fax and copier businesses. Imagistics shares dropped $4.21, or 12.3 percent, to $29.99 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange. The company, which sells and services fax and copy machines, now expects 2005 earnings per share to range between $1.61 and $1.66 per share, down from its prior target of $1.85 to $1.90. The company said the earlier forecast did not include the effects of restructuring, severance charges or expensing of stock options, which taken together reduced earnings by 24 cents per share. Imagistics said it will close its national remanufacturing center in Milford, Connecticut, because an industrywide shift to digital technology has resulted in dwindling demand for unconnected and analog remanufactured copiers. It also said it has cut 100 workers from its ranks in the first quarter, and plans to cut more jobs this year. biz.yahoo.com

550 Ingram Micro to Outsource, Cut 550 Jobs CHICAGO (Reuters) - Ingram Micro Inc. (IM) on Monday said it will cut about 550 jobs, or 20 percent of its North American staff, as a result of outsourcing and other actions, resulting in annual savings of $25 million by 2006. The world's largest computer products distributor said in a statement that it will begin outsourcing some North American positions in finance, shared services, customer service, vendor management and technical support, by the end of 2005. About half of the job cuts will be in Ingram Micro's offices in Orange County, California, with most of the remainder split between Canada and Buffalo, New York, a company spokeswoman told Reuters in an e-mailed note. Ingram Micro, which employed about 13,500 worldwide at the end of the fourth quarter, said that it was in final negotiations with two outsourcing providers and expects to reach a decision by the end of April. After an outsourcing firm is retained, most of the affected jobs will be moved to a location outside North America, the spokeswoman said. more here: money.iwon.com |
