I know. Which is why the appearance at the end was so shocking and such an irony. (trying not to give a spoiler, in the off-chance that someone here might actually decide to read it)

I was trying to say IF Clarke's "overlords" were evil (as in Wstera's "If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord" list), THEN their appearance would not be so ironic :-)

By the way, have you read Asimov's "Nightfall"? I am not a big fan of Asimov's stuff, but that book is a notable exception:
