Actually, it's the purple band-aids worn by Republicans to call into question ALL medals worn by anyone. Obviously the rightwing believes that the US Armed Forces can't be trusted to properly award medals. Even 30 years after the fact, Republicans were STILL trying to discredit the Vietnam era armed forces.

Sad but true.

Considering that Nixon and his dirty slime liar O'Neill (yep, the same schlub) tried to go after Kerry AT THE TIME and couldn't find anything, you'd think the rightwing would knock off trying to discredit the US Armed Forces 30 years later using the same set of ridiculous allegations.

Republicans are an affront to all the armed forces especially as they're FAILING-FAILING-FAILING to sign up in droves to go to Iraq. Why is that? Where are the Republican war mongers who gave George Deserter Bush the mandate to continue this war?

Where are those 60 million adults (they'll take anyone between 17 and 39 and are even trolling for some 70 year olds with previous experience) now? Where oh where? They should be jamming the recruiting offices instead of hiding underneath the bed.

Also sad but true. Republicans are chickenhawks to the very end.
