I think that's partly true, but more important I think is our education. If we have the best schools and our kids get educated in the science and technology, then we will keep our edge. But when you can find Chinese and Indian workers who are just as good as Americans at programming, but cost 1/3 to 1/5 the price, why would you pay for the American?

10 Years ago, I used to say 1 American engineer was worth 3-5 Indians. Now, I'd say my Indian engineers are better. They also have a better work ethic. American engineers feel entitled to good pay and work/life balance (sounds like the French). Whereas, Indian engineers feel lucky to have a good engineering job and they'll work unbelievable hours for alot less pay. So this makes it a no brainer for me when hiring decisions are made.

America has lost its edge in this industry. The only way to get back on top is to get our kids educated in the right things and continue to innovate our way out of this. Otherwise, the same market dynamics that have kept us on top for so long will force us to the bottom.
