JF, here's my opinion. I've heard that first-hand accounts of wartime experiences differ widely. It's possible that the memories of the Swifties are affected by their negative opinion of Kerry, just like it's possible that Kerry exaggerated his actions in Vietnam as heroic. Both sides certainly have enough motivation to tell their sides of the story, so to me it's impossible to know for sure what happened.

I don't agree, however, that the Swifties made any money off of their efforts, except maybe John O'Neill and a few of his close friends, and probably no more than any of the anti-Bush "whistleblowers" with their own book deals. Maybe they just want their 15 minutes of fame? Sure, just like the anti-Bush protesters looking for news cameras, even at the Michael Jackson trial.
