Sorry about that. I meant Overmind when I typed Overlord.

As for our next step in our evolutionary process, I think
that is the overall theme of 'Childhood's End' In the end
it failed (which I guess is pretty much what you said).

If our next step in human evolution is to create utopia al la
'Childhood's End', the potential exists to achieve some
great accomplishments. Unfortunately, it also may create more
problems that it actually solves.

IMO, it's really no different than the so called peace
activists who have a fervent, zealous faith that all
war/violence is bad. Many are willing to be extremely hostile
& quite violent to make their point. If only they could get
everyone on the planet not only to accept the merits to their
POV (which vary dramatically from ideologue to ideologue);
they also have to have everyone agree to major compromises to
their political, religious, cultural & personal passions. And
that has to happen before you begin to tackle the myriad of
existing disputes on a global, regional, local & individual
level.

It all sounds so good on paper, but it's impossible to
achieve in reality.

BTW, this is not to diss 'Childhood's End'. It actually
sounds like a good read, albeit, with a sad/disappointing
ending.
