Perhaps it's not surprising. The only thing I know about the Crimean War is that there was the charge of the light brigade and Florence Nightingale was a nurse.

Scary isn't it? I know from my students (17 to 21 years old), when I talk about a topic, such as music, most of 'em think that the Beatles were some kind of bug...

Ask them anything 'bout US presidents such as Truman to Bush Sr. & they don't have a clue...

Ask them about any Prime Minister except for the incumbent & then they look very starry cross-eyed...

I know how many liberals were at Vimy Ridge. Not enough to keep a boat rowing straight. Separatistes sent their condolences.
Before the war there were not many pacifists who joined up, (there were a few) but a lot more came home.
