I’ve known this boy for a number of years. There’s no doubt in my mind that he would be further along if the system hadn’t failed him. Presently, he is at a breaking point where he could be lost forever. He desperately wants to achieve self-sufficiency and lead a productive life. Despite his problems, this is what I like so much about him and it is humbling that he looks to me as a father figure. It is a privileged opportunity when you are given the chance to change someone’s life for the better and a frightening responsibility. * * *
