A critic made of theatre of the absurd. I can't remember his name- but he wrote several books on theatre, and i don't think he was being negative. These are the post war writers.

I think existentialism answers the questions of the Godless universe.

"Existentialism is about being a saint without God; being your own hero, without all the sanction and support of religion or society." Anita Brookner

(But I would say it is like trying to be a saint without God- because perfection is unattainable- I think that's one of the ways existentialism parts company with buddhism)

I don't know, Grainne. I thought it was a self-definition.

I'm sure I couldn't bear to attend a play in the theater of the absurd.

Is there perhaps a more charitable definition of these playrights' works?
