CB, if it was competition for resources, it wouldn't be so bad.

It's really just the old alpha male dominance hierarchy at work. They want to be the boss and on the winning team. The boss and winning team get the girls and the resources and once upon a time, resources came with territory as wealth was found growing on trees, running around in the forests or buried in the ground. Territorial dominance and tribal ascendancy were vital.

It's monkey DNA in action. Unfortunately, they don't see that.

Now, wealth is created by brainpower. CDMA takes almost no resources. MSFT is powered by pixels. Financial institutions deal in the abstract. Uncle Al KBE is running the most profitable and territorially irrelevant process in human history = production of US$.

Most people still tend to see wealth as found and life as a zero-sum game with force as the way to succeed. Force is fun. Especially if one is too stupid to do anything more useful.

Yiwu the Mad doesn't understand these things, even writing that Chinese don't care about money, but Americans care only about it. "The wonderful guy who invented the Chinese A-bomb worked for a bowl of rice, died young, and happy". Great! Unfortunately, there are a LOT of Yiwus in China [so she says but they aren't allowed to vote to see if that's true].
