Just point him towards some of the RAND corp. studies...

It always amazes me that there are people, some 40 years after some pretty compelling studies were done, still don't know this stuff.

In that example the "market" is a much larger group than the committee, so the market plays the part of the group and the committee is a stand in for the individual. The larger group on the whole makes better decisions.

The market doesn't operate like a large committee. It makes better decisions most of the time because it has better information, even though that information is not explicitly shared. Changes in price send signals better than any committee report or study could achieve.

The market isn't made up of one individual but its ability to operate efficiently is maximized by maximizing individual freedom to operate in the market.
