The fishies don't need the part above the surface, the part that is readily visible to humans.

The parts that are above the water are strung with lights to keep boats from running into them!

And before you say it, no, Loran won't be good enough nor charts. Those waters are teeming with fishermen, both recreational and sport. Not to mention crewboats carrying passengers to and from rigs. Not to mention great big ocean going vessels that are full of oil and other cargo. Not to mention military vessels.

Anyway, once you get used to them, they're really pretty. At least I think so. I have some photos I took on my last trip I might show you sometime.
