JAPAN TO PROPOSE JOINT HISTORY STUDY WITH CHINA

TOKYO April 13 (VNA-TNA) – At the upcoming meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, Japanese Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura is expected to propose that the two countries conduct a joint study of their bilateral history.

Speaking at a Japanese House of Representatives session, the Japanese top diplomat said the joint study would help overcome differences between the two countries over historical issues, which have been sources of contention in their relations.

The meeting is scheduled to take place in Beijing on Apr. 17 following the Japanese Ministry of Education’s publication of new history textbooks which were called by both China and the Republic of Korea as distortion of history. (VNA-TNA)--E002
