Thats not true, K8 is far from over, the next cores K9 ect. will just be improvments of the existing core (multicore ect.). also the K8 itself is en evolution of K7.

Yes I understand, but most of the profit should come from the first several years. AMD was royally screwed by MSFT on that front, as the early advantage of A64 vs Intel was wasted, no doubt depriving AMD of both profit and marketshare.

Still, the single core K8 history will have seen very little AMD total profit. 2006 will see heavy DC pressure, with Intel fab capacity helping them while AMD struggles to Fab 36 & 65nm. IBM & Chartered might play here I suppose, but I think AMD's fab skills are better than either of those, although IBM is considered to have helped AMD. I think IBM has good tech, but not such hot high volume high yield skills. Not my area though.

Intel must get to a true DC & all 64 bit, and tame power/heat issues. That will all come in late 2006. AMD will not sit still either, but I think 2005 is the great window, 2006 looks a bit more like a fractured window to me.
