Elroy, we were as far as I know the first startup that did offshoring of sw dev.

When did you start?

Offshoring needs to be a really well thought out strategic move, not an unplanned initiative simply so the CEO doesn't lose his or her job. Offshoring is absolutely not something a company's ceo should run off and do without having the real hardcore ground work layed out that you absolutely must have in place before executing.

This sounds reasonable, but the idea of laying lots of hardcore ground work and preparation sounds like the opposite of being a startup. Most startups don't have the resources for detailed study, consulting advice, preparation, etc.

Anyway, I'm not a major advocate of offshoring SW development, I just don't see why the market won't solve the problem (if it is a problem) by itself. If offshoring software development doesn't work, companies which have done it will fail, and that process will go away. If it does work, then Lizzie is wrong.

What's the big deal?
