Jeepers, I go away and "do stuff" for 3 or 4 days
and come back and feel like I've been away for a year!
Hmmm...
Lemme just say that the weather here is almost
getting to that point where I can barely make
myself come indoors at the end of the day.
The world seems like it is suddenly coming to life
all around me, and of course, that requires plenty
of field note writing and photograph taking.

WR's link to the peregrine falcon webcam made me
think to post this photo of a heronry that I dropped
by to take a look at last weekend. Awesome sight!
The largest heronry I have yet seen.
And the sounds coming from it!!
Primordial. Loud croaks and creaks and a kind
of clattering like kids fighting with wooden swords...
made by their great beaks as they clack them open and shut
or tap each other on the beak.
This is the large version of the photo -- not great as it
was shot from some distance and under very bright sun,
but will give som idea of the place. It's a very wide
photo, so requires some scrolling across.
