Raymond, You are REALLY a good researcher; some of this Michael Mering stuff you found I have never seen before and I have been following the story from the beginning.

I know a man who knows Mering and visited him in the hotel where the explosion happened, maybe six months before the event. The guy I know is involved with a Seventh Day Adventist orphanage near Davao City and spends a lot of time there when he is not in Tennessee raising money for the orphanage. Mering was supposedly involved in treasure hunting and the guy I know approached him on that basis.

I ran around with a guy over there back in 1997 and 1998 and even did some driving for him, who I am sure is some sort of spook. We made two trips back into the interior of Mindanao supposedly on a "fact finding mission" with regards to promoting the use of hybrid corn seed there. Mering is Jewish and is an English educated medical doctor, or so I have been told. The guy I ran around with was also Jewish but with a Christian name and was a Texas native. Your article says that Mering lived in Texas. Very Strange.

There is another even spookier Mindanao case that went on about a year before Merings involving a black ex-US Marine named Jeffery Schlling. He was kidnapped in Zamboanga and the US embassy actually sent out two officials to negoiate his release, something they never do.
