Ballot box stuffing, can you say Mugabe.
I'm sorry it wasn't Brault for lunch. It was Claude Boulay, former President of Groupe Everest.

I am pretty sure that they won the last PQ referendum with bussed in people, and artful forgeries. All those buses steaming into PQ were not just cheerleaders. You have to forgive them for wholesale bribes. It has to be awful tough to be sure you are dealing with a federalist in Quebec. Willingness to accept a bribe has to one way to do it.

Ballot box stuffing is an art. It is encouraged in statistically close ridings. It can be done "inadvertently." A candidate can bus people on the basis of late registration and get them registered late in two polling stations or more.

Also subliminal persuasion and cheap ads. You have to hand it to the liberalis. They started studying Vance Packard's Hidden Persuader techniques in the thirties so by the time the war ended, they had Cockfield-Brown doing government paid ads to connect people to motherhood issues and the liberals. cbc.ca
The whole Canadian flag thing picking colours that matched the liberal party's so people would identify country and apple pie with their image was calculated. All part of psyche studies. The secret liberal psyche campaign has been funded by the taxpayers for more than few decades. The price so far? In the billions. All the gov't ads are party identified in no uncertain terms. Health Canada becomes health-liberal-canada. To woo new CDN voters they say that conservatives are racists. Nice. When Martin came out blazing on Health when he was asked about sleaze, he is countering expertly as advised. The demographic is now over thirty and more health concerned. The message is, "if you care about staying healthy, the liberals won't let you down, my opponent will kill you" Worry is a subtle but powerful thing and is better than a blunderbuss in the face when it comes to persuasion. Disease, starvation, eviction.. worried? Vote liberal.

You can sell a crock of shit as being a real bad crock of shit far better than you can sell the cure. But it's still a crock of shit.

The campaigns are beginning to sound more and more hackeneyed. First they start out with lets kill all the really bad criminals, no mercy for mother and father rapers. So no candidate can pardon or excuse a felon closer than 6 months before the election. Or ever. Hence Dukakis loses. Always look stong, virile and tough. Hence the Trudeau gunslinger stance, and water skiing and tanks.. but be careful, one step over the line into photo op sillyness and it all backfires. Opt for tougher crime legislation. They all do that. How to make more laws against father raping is a tough one, but they manage to convince us the streets will be safe again, once that paper is minted. Crock. Criminals will always be with us. No paper is going to change that. Do something about recidivism like Sweden has by reducing sentences & increasing education -- leading to a whopping 50% reduction in repeat offenses? Nope, it says here that it does not win votes. Reduce crime and you cannot get elected. Solution. Tougher prisons, more in prison and more crime. We can afford security, we live on the Rideau on gov't salaries.

The script wears thin. For once I would like to hear about some candidate that talked about what they can do something about. Spend less money and get the economy on track. Is free trade good or bad? I for one think it is a crock. It isn't free, so maybe we should renegotiate it? What about our biggest industries? Wood, mining, metals, cars? What about or perhaps diseased cattle? Any plans for what really matters? One more motherhood issue bullshit campaign about crime and gun control and more giveaways with money that does not exist and I will quit voting. The maritimes always votes liberal for that. Funny that after 50 years and no money so far, they have not woken up. They think they should vote for more fish on their UIC cheques.
