Pete - Someone's likely to be tickled at that! Not HP, though!

Introductory promotion, perhaps?

It means that AMD is only charging (getting?) ~$350-400 for that CPU from HP.

~250 if HP marks up accessories and options like we do in my biz :)

Edit: Or it could be that the bozos forgot to change the option price from a single core to dual core.

Edit2: HP charges $1,149 for a second 2.4GHz CPU in their BL35P line- so looks like a screw up.

Pete, the $1000 additional processor price is showing on all three models. I'm sure the custom build function is screwed up or incomplete right now.

I also believe that we would all be infuriated if we knew what HP really paid AMD for the dual core processors. The pick up in total units and the relatively level ASP has smelled an awful lot like market penetration pricing for several quarters now.

You all think what you like, but I think AMD has been giving HP, SUN, and IBM better than "Intel to Dell" pricing for quite a while. The prices that the "average Joe or mom and pop" pays for AMD64/OPTI online does not wash with total CPG revenues or general ASP trends. HP and SUN are not dropping entire Xeon lines because of feature or performance differentiation alone.
