Howard,

re:That's fine. I'm just saying that Halliburton has proved it has not been acting in the best interests of the taxpayers, and yet, even though the DOD can withold a small percentage of payments until all charges are investigated, it has chosen not to. Now why do you suppose that was?

Because the DOD is not a judge and jury - they simply need services provided and cutting off payments because of some unproven allegations is not going to get them what they want.

I will concede some things may have been over charged, it happens when you're the size of Halliburton, when those items are found - repayments will be made. This is what bean counters, err financial auditors are for - now if some party starts squelching auditors we have a real problem.

To somehow extrapolate that Cheney was involved or Bush had a hand in accounting errors is plain partisan stupidity of the lowest form and those that spew it are simply attack dogs for their party.

As for costs - 2x on everything is not unreasonable given the distance and risk everyone working out there is taking - what's your life worth to you?

I got 10% hazardous duty pay in Korea, 15% remote assignment a 70K exclusion from taxes and a 30% post allowance due to the differential in the cost of living. For assignments to Iraq during the first war they were offering 50% hazardous duty premiums and no insurance if killed on the job.

So if a truck driver in Iraq working for Halliburton is getting 150K, I still think he's under paid.
