i remember one night driving slow down road (55mph speed limit) a lot of deer cross over the road and i slowed down.. saw the eyes with the head light on the side of the road. guy behind beeping his horn and flashing his lights as i was only driving about 30mph. Then one deer shoots out and i stop. waited about 20 seconds and three more come running out from the woods across the road. I think the guy or woman felt bad after.. I started back up and the person behind me gave me plenty of space. I was going to slow down again at top of hill where speed limit drops to 35mph from 55 mph.. local town cops sit on other side of hill... sure enough one on side road and another one about 1/2 mile up the road waiting for any speeders over the 35mph trap. small town needs money i guess .

If one makes it across the rest of the herd will try. Had that happen with my father in the car one year. A deer ran across the road and I stopped. "Why did you stop?" Then 6 more ran across the road.
