As much as people might have not liked Nixon and his wrongdoing, the fact is our Constitution worked back then and our democracy survived that assult. But, now we have a much more consolidated federal govt. For one thing, back in the Nixon days, you had the Democrats fully in control of Congress, so the heat was on Nixon from the opposition. The Republicans of that era, to their credit, were interested in following the Constitution and sought to impeach Tricky Dick. Now, you've got the Republicans, who never seem interested in investigating anything, in control of Congress and the White House. They control everything in DC these days. While the cats away the mice will play. Who's watching the henhouse? The consolidation of power is exemplified by the way Bush has been cleaning house at the CIA. Anyone who didn't go along with his WMD sharade in 2003 and actually tried to do their job, is looking for another job. He has purged that agency. That's the mentality that exists in Washington at this time. Certainly, an excellent atmosphere for pulling all sorts of dirty tricks and getting away with them. I understand your point about someone would probably expose the 9/11 conspiracy. But, not if it was done very tightly and done in a compartmentalized way in which most people didn't even know they were part of a conspiracy. For example, people who might have delivered the explosive to the WTC might have really been led to believe they were delivering routine office supplies. A nice way to cover your tracks. Nobody talks, because they're ignorant of the facts. All it would take is a few loyal persons to pull off a job like this. There's no shortage of that type out there. Hell, the CIA even has it's own secret military strike force. How many people know that? Who on that team would be willing to talk? I understand where you're coming from. But, consider the reality of the world we live in today and the fact that many operations are carried out in a compartmentalized manner on a need to know basis. A few extremely loyal and well paid persons in an intelligence agency would be more than enough to pull off 9/11 and get away with it. The technology is available. They do all sorts of immoral things in their careers for the "greater good", why would they stop at staging a domestic terrorist attack? The Northwoods Operation of the 1960s tells us they are willing to go to such measures. They've gone to such measure and worse in other countries. One last thing. Why was the Bush Admin so disinterested in the FBI's investigations of arabs training to fly jumbo jets? That is another indication of official foot dragging. Why?
