Re: "LMAO."

Mike, first stop that crazy laughing, then take a deep breath and think for a moment.

Every time you start posting "kill them, torture them and we'll win" kinds of nonsense you're forced to fall back on emotional reactions to 9/11 for reinforcement. That's because those ideas make no sense intellectually; they're the flawed result of an angry, fearful response to an event that was tragically personal for you and many other Americans.

You ask; "And how would you solve the al quaeda problem, Ed? We could start with the final solution of the israeli problem as well as giving the holy oil lands to al quaeda."

The easy answer is that I wouldn't have tried to solve it by taking the tons of flesh we've taken in the name of 9/11 or by using methods like torture and justifications that have made us the laughing stock and the object of hatred of most of the world.

I wouldn't have acted in ways that elevated Bin Ladin and Al Quaeda from a little rogue semi-criminal group with aspirations of glory, to almost divine status in huge areas of the world.

And I wouldn't try to "solve" the Al Quaeda problem; I'd be smart enough and brave enough to know that I could only attempt to minimize it over a long period of time and I'd accept the inevitable risks it presented.

Short term I'd threaten a host of sanctions against NATIONS which supported terrorists ranging from diplomatic and economic sanctions to LIMITED strikes. Long term I'd practice a foreign policy that had at its core the central theme of "do no harm" to the local populations when intervening in the internal affairs of sovereign nations.

I'd foster and develop top rate international crime units capable of utilizing advanced crime fighting techniques and developing the personnel necessary to fight the criminals who conduct terrorist acts in the name of politics.

I'd try to regain the admiration, respect and support of many populations in the world by helping the people who live in such populations. I'd champion human rights, world health needs and I'd put an American face on the huge amount of good we could do in the world if we spent much less treasure than we're spending trying to kill our way to success. I'd stop supporting and propping up corrupt and oppressive regimes like the Saudis and the Egyptians and I'd either rein in the right wing extremists running Israel or stop funding their existence.

And when the dust settled and the world adjusted I'd have a start in a direction that would eventually lead up to a more tolerant civilization rather than down toward further chaos. Ed
