We used to take the kids down to the Ballard Locks in Seattle to watch the fish run through the fish ladder there. They had a below-grade area with glass windows that allowed you to watch the fish swim past. This was back in the days of Herschel, the predatory sea lion, who used to hang out where the fish would queue up to make the run through the locks. I recall there was much consternation about Herschel and his buddies, but they were, after all, protected species.
