Or the cost of your gas guzzling car. People react to big chunks of money more than incremental increases. And a gas tax hurts those that can afford it the least.

Tax the autos; as the NRA would say "People don't waste gas, cars do" (actually the other way around, but you get the point).

I am very suspicious of any claim that the price of something should be higher than the market price.
