The biggest need of our space program is a follow-on replacement for the outmoded shuttle fleet.

Reducing the cost of lift-to-orbit by a factor of 10 to 1 should be our most important immediate space goal.

There's been talk of a space elevator. Of course you would have to worry about suicide bombers or kamikaze muslims. If I could move to another planet though, I would go for it in a heartbeat. The SSC might have gave us some new propulsion answers also. Boston got its friggin hole in the ground and Texas got burned. We anted up a billion dollars for the atom smasher too.
