everyone knows I'm against banning
I know. You were included because I wanted to get all the regulars. I know I missed one and there are probably more.

Be careful what you wish for. You may get it.

it's a form censure

and I believe in free speech

It's a form of protection too. We've seen plenty of examples of what a compulsive idiot or a hypester can do to a thread.

The First Amendment exists precisely to protect the most offensive and controversial speech from suppression. The best way to counter obnoxious speech is with more speech. Persuasion, not coercion, is the solution.
The first amendment limits the rights of the GOVERNMENT- -not my rights or SI's rights. You CANNOT tell the editor of a private newspaper that they must publish your letter.

interestingly, for the first time ever in my cyber experience here at SI, I have begin to think AS is a paid hypester
Many of us have had that suspicion. Am I required to carry its ads? Particularly if it doesn't pay me? Or is SI?

btw, friday is the 50th anniversary of the opening of the first McDonald's

we have the clown, now all we need is the grub to celebrate the 50th properly

Why don't you let them get fat and have heart attacks instead of you?

"we have the clown, now all we need is the grub to celebrate the 50th properly"

Methinks you may be a bit confused here. <g> The clown is Jack-in-the-Box's logo/mascot/symbol/promo/whatever, not McDonald's. - Holly

RDW, I agree with the spirit of your sentiments, and I generally abhor stifling cybervoices, but some are little but thread noise and pollution, contributing nothing to thoughtful discussion. With their repeated one-note diatribes and vituperative, ah, contributions, they tend to kill threads sooner than later. JMHO. - Holly

Me too up to a point. When some idiot shows up at our table at the 3-D coffee shop we give him the option of moving to a different table. Nobody has gone for the second option.

Actually there were 8 McDonalds in SoCal when Ray Kroc bought the franchise from the McDonald brothers and opened what he called McDonalds #1 in Des Plaines. Odd thing is that in the purchase agreement there were so many restrictions on what could be charged for a franchise that McDonalds Inc. owned all the diners on paper. Might have changed by now.
