RE: "I am of the belief that we cannot afford to abandon any industry."

There are always people making money in the market, just as there are always slot machines ringing out the announcement of a jackpot. It is obvious that the slot machine win is just luck, and I suspect much the same with the market. There has been some discussion here about competing with the pros. My strategy is to be better informed and to develop a deeper understanding. This requires me to concentrate and I must abandon most industries and most companies. "Put all your eggs in one basket and watch that basket closely" is how one famous market guru put it. Certainly, I am aware of the added risk created by my lack of diversification. I deal with that by keeping the lion's share of my assets in CDs and real estate. I am also aware that added risk comes with the potential for bigger gains.

I think that I will not have the kind of collaboration I seek until the most vocal posters commit 10 - 25% of their market funds to a portfolio of my 8. Until that happens, I am just putting out my thoughts because I believe a public airing requires me to be coherent, consistent, and accurate.
