Karen,

Its the reality of the lefts intellectual viewpoint. The Canadian and British systems are bascially socialist - the Government runs and regulates Health Care.

Opponents say that basically everything is ok with the status quo, but thats also wrong. The uninsured cost everyone when they can't pay bills or get woefully sick and fill up our ER's.

The Swiss, Japanese and Australians have interesting approaches that are funded and managed quite differently from the fully socialist models such as Canada (where there are no co-pays and private health care is outlawed - to get private coverage you leave the country).

In Japan there are significant co-pays, but catastrophic coverage comes in and covers 100% for anything truly serious. In Switzerland there are provider choices, but health care is mandatory. In Australia they have choices and you can pay extra for upgraded private care.

Too detailed to get into in a short note - there are dozens of models, but we always get stuck looking at only the fully socialist ones that cannot be sold.
