Granted there is some class envy here too. But your argument against the death tax is the same that can me made against the income tax.
"Compare the amount collected in death taxes against the $billions in time and capital we spend in estate planning."

Change estate planning to tax planning and accountants fees and you have even a greater problem with the income tax than death tax. Thats why consumption taxes appear to be so attractive in theory. Any ideas about VAT or national sales tax? Most opponents say its just another tax whose rates will rise while the other taxes are not eliminated.
