All you have to do is scan Briefing.com at 5:00 PM to see how many companies are missing estimates. GE may be well diversified company but it is just one company (who happens to be the best managed hence better results vis a vis overall economy that will include myraid of pathetically managed companies as well). Further if I did deeper, a good portion of GE's profits might be coming frm their financial and insurance arm which as an industry is ripe for a nasty fall.

How much of GE's earnings "surprise" came from selling the rest of its Genworth? And what economy are you referring to, the world economy or the US economy? GE's results highlighted the non-US developments and initiatives.

well this market is making a lot of permabulls like me into chicken littles. The naz is down over 12% this year, that is TERRIBLE. I'm discouraged. And the real problem I have, is that growth companies need a robust stock market, which we have had for over 20 years. Now, without a good stock market I wonder what the result will be for innovation in the US.

In the 70s, we had a bad stock market but we also had bad companies. Now we have good companies and a bad stock market... a shame.
