I feel like Cassandra: after given the gift of prophecy, she is punished by Apollo for not plying him with favors, doomed by this rejection, she is to never have anyone believe her. Will the stalwart members of the SI "hornets' nests" ever be swayed with one final argument of pure virtue? I don't think so - no matter how logical or sensible or moderate. So how do we proceed? As one poster said early on when I first joined the thread a few months back, and I paraphrase, "Maybe things have to get so bad that the supporters of the current regime decide it isn't in their best interest." If these followers are into end-times prophecy, then they have their man. GWB is doing everything he can to bring about Armageddon and sees himself empowered as a player in history, but in the process, he is abusing those things that most people hold as Christian values. The real power center, though is not GWB. He is but a puppet - a useful puppet, but a puppet of cynical machinations. I love this blue marble and the people that cling to it, though I despair because of their ignorance and credulity.
