It won't happen overnight, then, will it? It took time for goods to be priced in USD from Pounds, and trade didn't shut down. How long do you want to wait in goldthinking the CBs have it wrong and will recklessly abandon USD without a replacement. That seems to be the catalyst for the gold trade.

taikun, I think this is the point we all agree on. personally, I think this shift is imminent, it will just start subtly (if it hasn't already). we know several CBs are diversifying away from dollars. argentina, russia, and malaysia have stated such, and it wouldn't surprise me if china and japan aren't buying as many dollars as they otherwise would if they didn't see this change coming. china is likely already buying gold.

TAikun: i dont know about you, but gold ahs been quite good to me the pst few years (though not the past 1). You ahve a problem with its move so far? Dissapointed it hasnt gone further, sure.
Inpateint, or thinking the move is over and it is back to a gold bear market? The CB's are powerful, but not omnipotent. What they do will ultimately not matter or worse simply fan the flames.

>> I will absolutely agree that the USD has lost its role in the world economy AND it would be prudent to back up the truck on gold if CBs start abandoning the USD without a replacement because they will have lost their mind. <<

I think this is a good point. The US dollar has absolutely lost its role in the world economy. The only thing preventing a huge repricing of world assets in another currency is uncertainty about who will take over the leadership role. Will it be China? Europe? Or Japan ??

Politics aside, this is another reason why i hate what the Bush administration has done with its fiscal prodigality in this country. I will use the religious term because we have a faith-based presidency right now.

People don't talk about it, but the only way to clarify who will take over the world economic leadership role is for some foreign economic power to challenge the USA and to beat the USA. This is how to Britain lost its role as world superpower (World War I), and it is also how the USA will lose its role as superpower (World War III?)

By debasing the dollar and screwing overseas creditors in the name of a tax cut for the hyper rich, Bush has actually increased the chance of a foreign invasion of the US, or a world war - you take your choice.

Does this administration have any idea what they are playing games with ??
