Rupert

Some of us have made a very nice return believing AMD will remain in this range. Some of us have built a nice position in AMD with other people's money.

Don't be such a stranger.

Its kind of funny how this thing has played out with flash...I still think Hector thinks he can make money with flash somehow a year from now...he must feel that Intel will stop their flash dumping below cost if AMD divests it...ornand must be just around the corner...the problem is that investors don't want to see another 2 years of losses...I say use the 90nm tech for outsourcing video processing chips and shit-can flash all together if it continues to be a money loser...

rupert, thank goodness! I was worried you'd been locked up in one of those Mexican prisons you used to go on about. Or... maybe you were just released? At any rate, you seem to have retained your flair for the strawmanesque characterization of others' positions. Has anyone declared Ruiz "brilliant" for his handling of Spansion, including this more-or-less forced spin-off? Of course not. But you go ahead and have fun pretending. It makes your stories that much more entertaining.

As for predicting the obvious (an IPO is rather difficult for an underperforming division in a rocky market), well, now you're becoming boring again.

"It's seems like only minutes ago that you were calling for ever-expanding revenues and profits from flash and world domination for AMD's new flash process(es) while you castigated critics as doom and gloomers."

Hey rupert1, you were right to be gloomy about Q3 flash last September, happy now?

Haven't heard much from you since, so I'm not sure, what your stance has been since then.

As for me, I never commented on any spinoff suggestions as you know. In fact my flash stance has been "flash is volatile and hence a large unknown". When it's up, it's very up and when it's down it's very down, but I must confess that flash in Q1 was down far more than I had anticipated as reflected by my $477M flash revenue estimate as compared to actual of $450.

Too bad I didn't see your Q1 EPScontest entry as it might have provided some evidence in support of your post.

By the way, perhaps since you've used other posters names in your post to me, you should let those other posters mentioned in your post know that your September flash negatism has been vindicated. They probably like to be reminded for the 1000th time by you as am I.

With respect to the following:

"It's seems like only minutes ago that you were calling for ever-expanding revenues and profits from flash and world domination for AMD's new flash process(es) while you castigated critics as doom and gloomers

Any "ever expanding revenues" outlook as you phrase it, relates to CPG revenues if you care to review Q1 posts and is reinforced by my recent EPScontest entry estimates and which show, contrary to the CPG doom and gloomers, that their gloomy CPG scenarios just don't hold up. As far as flash goes who knows any more than it is very, very volatile and very, very unpredictable, even moreso than I would've guessed in my Q1 expectations.

As far as the flash IPO goes, I don't pretend to know what you think you know but would won't be surprised if Hector gets it done in Q2, hopefully the one we are in.

My prediction is still in good standing and I further predict that this spin off will be very difficult and will be achieved on terms much less favourable for AMD shareholders than it would have been had it been undertaken 10-6 months ago. Meanhwhile, potential losses from flash and the costs and other uncertainties surrounding the spin-off will continue to cap any sustained rally in the AMD share price until at least September/October.

Excellent post. I'm currently out of AMD for this reason.
