If we go into a recession, much of the world will follow us. We are major consumers of energy and products that require energy to make/transport. We also have one of the stronger economies in the world. I suspect that these two facts will outweigh all other factors that need to be considered and worldwide demand for oil will fall sharply.

We may actually get to see what happens shortly.

Commodities are priced on the margin. If demand drops - the price will drop more.
